Peter Brosens is a Belgian filmmaker and cultural anthropologist, currently living and working in Italy. His films made between 1993 and 1999 in collaboration with Mongolian filmmakers explore Mongolia during a time of dramatic social and political transformation.
“It is said that long ago, when even time did not exist, the Blue Wolf and the Deer gave birth to the Mongol people. Their homes, their yurts, were the steppes, and the steppes nourished and cared for them. Everywhere was silence, slow silence, the wordless voice of the steppes… Then time moved in, like death. The Soviets changed everything. Nature was planned, predicted, controlled. They built cities, brought new ways of living, and the past, their past. And then they left. The steppes that lay silent for so long are once again beginning to speak. History is being recycled. But who is listening to the voice of the steppes?…”
