Film & Talk
The Land of Love (78 min.) portrays Yuri Vella, Forest Nenets writer, poet, and activist, who called the tundra where his reindeer mate each autumn the Land of Love. The same area is used by oil workers for hunting, disturbing the animals. To protect it, Vella used unusual methods, from filming intruders to writing poems. The film is followed by a discussion with anthropologist Stephan Dudeck (Berlin), who has long researched Siberian Indigenous peoples, focusing on oral history, human–animal relations, spiritual practices, and the preservation of Nenets traditions in close collaboration and friendship with Yuri Vella and also with the film director Liivo Niglas.
The event is hosted by the Wiederblick Filmclub and supported by the City of Halle (Saale).
