In no other European country are homosexual and trans people affected by state and social violence as much as in Azerbaijan. The International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association lists the country in last place in a ranking of the situation of LGBTI people in 49 countries. Protests against the Azerbaijani regime are repeatedly violently suppressed by the police. We spoke to Alex from the group "Voice of Petukh" about the situation on the ground. Alex lives in Baku and campaigns for the visibility and rights of queer people there.
